There is no easyBitcoin app download for New Zealand. The genuine app, published by Uphold HQ Inc., is missing from the NZ App Store, and its terms accept only US residents. The service also closes on 30 November 2026. Any “NZ version” or APK you come across is either the US app you can’t use or a fake.
That gap in the NZ store is the real hazard. When the genuine listing is absent, whatever does appear for the search is something else, and some of those things are built to take your money.
Is easyBitcoin in the NZ App Store or Google Play?
Not in the Apple store. We queried Apple’s public lookup service and opened the Google Play listing on 16 October 2026.
| Store | What we found | What it means for you |
|---|---|---|
| Apple App Store, United States | Listed. Publisher Uphold HQ Inc., version 1.2.4 (7 Oct 2026), iPhone only, 3.0 from 10 ratings | The genuine listing, for US accounts only |
| Apple App Store, New Zealand | No result | Not offered to NZ Apple accounts |
| Apple App Store, Australia and UK | No result | Not offered there either |
| Google Play | Package app.easybitcoin, publisher Uphold HQ Inc., 10K+ downloads | The page may load from NZ, but the service is still US-only |
The other “easy” name Kiwis know does have an NZ listing. The Easy Crypto Wallet app, from Dott Enterprises Ltd, is still in the NZ App Store with 4.68 stars from 1,546 ratings. It is a different company and a different product, so finding it doesn’t mean you’ve found easyBitcoin.
How to recognise the genuine easyBitcoin listing
A real listing matches every one of these identifiers. A copy usually gets at least one wrong.
- Publisher: Uphold HQ Inc. on both stores. Not easyGroup, not easyJet, not an individual’s name.
- Apple app ID: 6746941684, visible in the address of the US listing (apps.apple.com/us/app/easybitcoin/id6746941684).
- Android package name: app.easybitcoin, shown in the address of the Play listing.
- Devices: iPhone only on Apple. An iPad, Mac or Windows “edition” is not genuine.
- History: first released on 9 September 2025; version 1.2.4 arrived on 7 October 2026, and the Play listing was last updated on 10 April 2026.
Why easyBitcoin doesn’t show up when you search from NZ
App stores are country-specific. A developer chooses which countries’ storefronts list each app, and your Apple ID or Google account belongs to one country, usually set by your billing address. The store then shows only apps released in that country.
So the NZ store isn’t hiding easyBitcoin or malfunctioning. Uphold simply hasn’t released it here, which fits the terms: the product runs on US bank links and US dollar accounts.
Google Play works a little differently. Its listing pages open in a browser from anywhere, and some apps can be installed in countries the service doesn’t support. A page loading tells you nothing about whether you can open an account. For finance apps, the provider’s terms decide, and these say US residents only.
Can you get easyBitcoin with a US App Store account or an APK file?
You can find online guides to changing an app-store country or installing an APK file. For a finance app, both cause more trouble than they solve.
| Aspect | Changing your store region | Sideloading an APK |
|---|---|---|
| What it involves | Moving your Apple or Google account to another country, often needing a local address and payment method | Downloading an app file from a website or message and installing it outside Google Play |
| What can go wrong | Lost access to apps and subscriptions from your home store; breach of the app’s terms | Modified files that capture logins or recovery phrases; no automatic security updates |
| Does it get you an account? | No: the provider still verifies identity and residency | No: the service still requires US residency |
| Risk to your money | An account opened on false details can be frozen | Malware can empty wallets on the same phone |
Identity verification settles it. A regulated provider checks your name, address and documents, and an NZ passport with an NZ address won’t pass a US-resident check. Supplying false details to get through can end with a frozen account and funds stuck inside, which is far worse than never having the app.
easyBitcoin clone apps and fake APKs: how the scams work
Scammers favour names that people search for but can’t easily find. A US-only app with an “easy” name, a famous parent brand and a shutdown in the news suits them well. Expect these tactics:
- Lookalike listings. Something called “Easy Bitcoin Wallet” or “easyBTC”, in a similar orange colour scheme, from an unrelated developer.
- APK mirror pages. Sites offering the “latest version” of the app file, sometimes ranking above real results or appearing in ads.
- Links in chats. Telegram, WhatsApp or Facebook messages offering an “international” or “NZ” version that the store doesn’t carry.
- Fake migration tools. Apps that promise to move a closing account’s Bitcoin and ask for an existing recovery phrase.
Each one aims to get a login, a recovery phrase or a card number typed in, or to get Bitcoin sent to the scammer’s address. Our guide to crypto scams in New Zealand lists the patterns reported most often here.
Why fake easyBitcoin apps look convincing in the NZ store
Clones borrow credibility in predictable ways. They copy the real screenshots and description word for word. They buy batches of short five-star reviews in their first week. They pick corporate-sounding developer names that belong to no real company.
For Kiwis there is an extra problem. In the US store, a search for easyBitcoin shows the Uphold listing near the top, so a copy sits beside the original and looks odd. In the NZ store there is no original to compare against. Anything that appears for that search is, by definition, something else.
Five checks before installing any Bitcoin app in NZ
These work for every finance app, not only this one.
- Developer name. Match the publisher shown in the store with the company named on the provider’s own website. A mismatch means stop.
- Listing age and reviews. A brand-new listing with a famous name, or a wall of similar five-star reviews from one week, is a warning. Genuine apps collect a mix of praise and specific complaints.
- Download count against fame. Clones of well-known apps often have very few installs. A big provider’s app with a handful of downloads deserves a second look.
- Permissions. A Bitcoin app has no obvious need to read your SMS, contacts or screen, or to install other apps. On Android, be wary of any request for accessibility access, which lets an app read and control what’s on screen.
- What it asks you to type. No legitimate app needs another wallet’s recovery phrase to get started. If one asks, or wants coins sent to “verify” or “activate” an account, uninstall it.
Installed a fake easyBitcoin app? What to do now
If you’ve installed an app or APK calling itself easyBitcoin and now doubt it, act promptly:
- Stop typing. Enter nothing more, then uninstall it.
- Change passwords for any email or exchange account you entered, starting with the email, and switch on app-based two-factor authentication.
- Move funds out of any wallet whose recovery phrase you entered, into a new wallet created on a clean device. Treat that phrase as compromised.
- Check settings for unfamiliar device-admin or accessibility permissions, and remove them.
- Report it. New Zealanders can report scams and cyber incidents to the NCSC and check or report suspicious platforms with the FMA. Call your bank at once if you shared card or banking details.

Will easyBitcoin stay in the app stores after the shutdown?
We don’t know, and the company hasn’t said. The homepage gives a sunset date of 30 November 2026 but nothing about the store listings. Once the service ends, any newly appearing app or download offering “easyBitcoin” deserves even more suspicion, since there will be no genuine service for it to connect to. Existing customers can find the dates and withdrawal steps in our easyBitcoin shutdown timeline.
Bitcoin apps you can download in New Zealand
Plenty of Bitcoin apps are listed in the NZ store under their own company names and openly accept Kiwis. Our comparison of easy Bitcoin apps that take NZ dollars sets out four of them, and the easyBitcoin app explainer covers who runs the original.
Questions Kiwis ask
Why can’t I find easyBitcoin in the New Zealand App Store?
Because its publisher never released it here. Developers pick the countries whose storefronts list an app, and easyBitcoin is a US-only service. On 16 October 2026 Apple’s lookup service returned no result for the app in the New Zealand, Australian or UK stores, while the US listing was live under Uphold HQ Inc.
Can I download easyBitcoin from Google Play in NZ?
You may be able to open the Google Play page for app.easybitcoin in a browser from New Zealand, but that doesn’t make the service available. Its terms require you to be a legal resident of the United States, and identity checks enforce that. Installing it would not give a New Zealander a usable account, and the service closes on 30 November 2026.
Is it safe to download an easyBitcoin APK from another website?
No. APK mirror sites and files shared in chats or ads can carry modified apps that capture logins or recovery phrases. The genuine app is distributed only through the official App Store and Google Play listings published by Uphold HQ Inc. A New Zealander has no reason to install it, so any APK offering an NZ version is a warning sign.
How can I tell if a Bitcoin app is fake?
Compare the developer name with the company named on the provider’s own website, then look at how old the listing is and whether reviews mention specific problems rather than generic praise. Check the permissions it requests. Uninstall anything that asks for a recovery phrase from another wallet, or asks you to send coins to activate an account.
Is there an easyBitcoin app for iPad, Mac or Windows?
Not that we could find. On the US App Store the genuine app is listed for iPhone only, and on Android it is the Google Play package app.easybitcoin. We found no official desktop download. A website offering easyBitcoin for iPad, Mac or Windows is not distributing the genuine app and should be treated as a likely scam.
